Rochester Art Club/Workshop with Luis Alvarez Roure

The Rochester Art Club will host Luis Alvarez Roure for a three-day portrait/fabric workshop in oil September 13-15, 2024.  The workshop will focus on working on the portrait from life and learning how to develop the portrait for the duration of the workshop without making it look overly worked and keeping it simple and fresh. Students will learn how to see the subject in simple forms of light, shadow, color and form rather than getting into details too early in the process. This technique is also desirable when creating quick studies. At the beginning, Luis will demonstrate the use of materials and the basic steps of the process. Students will begin working interpreting the subject from life and focusing on big and simple masses of light, shadow and color. As they progress on their portrait, Luis will be discussing, helping the students, and answering questions. A white-on-white theme will be explored as well as we will have the model wearing a white robe. Luis Alvarez Roure won the prestigious Draper Grand Prize at the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition in 2022.
